CMH welcomes new Emergency, General Surgery providers

CMH is pleased to welcome Melissa Willitzer, PA-C, to the CMH Emergency Department, and Heather Hoops, MD, to the CMH-OHSU Health General Surgery Clinic. They both begin providing services this week.

Melissa Willitzer, PA-C

As the Oregon Health & Science University Community Emergency Medicine System Lead APP, Melissa will be splitting her full-time position between Adventist Health Portland, CMH and Hillsboro Medical Center.

Melissa has worked for OHSU in the Emergency Department at Adventist Health Portland for three years. Prior to joining OHSU, she worked for McKenzie Willamette Medical Center Emergency Department in Springfield, Oregon; and Saint Francis Hospital Emergency Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Melissa earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from OHSU. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Nursing.

Melissa’s professional interests include community outreach, wilderness medicine and medical education.

She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants; Oregon Society of Physician Assistants; Wilderness Medical Society; and Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants.

In her free time, Melissa enjoys backpacking, rock-climbing, hiking, traveling, playing with her dog Marlee, and going to Portland Timbers and Thorns games.

Heather Hoops, MD

Dr. Hoops has worked as an assistant professor at OHSU since 2020. She is OHSU’s general surgery fellowship director and a medical student academic advisor.

Dr. Hoops earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. She also holds a master’s degree in engineering systems from the Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Hoops completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Pittsburgh. She completed a general surgery residency at OHSU.

During her career, Dr. Hoops’ work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed articles and she has led many lectures. She has also received several scholarships and awards from organizations including OHSU and the American College of Surgeons, among others.
