Podcast: Surviving Cancer

Health news | Monday, March 1, 2021

Episodes 21 and 22 of "Hands on Health" are two parts of a conversation between Di Stuppy and Mari Montesano, social worker at the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative. As Di explains, she's an old lady in the cancer world, not because of her age, but because she's been living with cancer for more than 20 years.

Di is an optimistic realist. She doesn't sugar coat her situation, but she also doesn't wallow in it. Cancer has worked in Di's life the way that fire works on clay. She is stronger and more beautiful because of her experiences.

Di was in her mid-40s when she was diagnosed. In Part 1 she talks about continuing to work and build a career while undergoing cancer treatment.

In Part 2, Di talks about mortality; the role good nutrition, daily exercise, and spirituality play in her daily routines; and the silver lining she's found in the COVID-19 pandemic.
