Biography
Benjamin Sherman, DO, orthopedic surgeon, joined the CMH-OHSU Health Orthopedic Clinic in August 2021. Dr. Sherman earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.
He completed an internship and residency at Riverside University Health system in Moreno Valley, California, as well as a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida, where he trained under world-renowned orthopedic surgeon James R. Andrews, MD.
Dr. Sherman specializes in the treatment of complex knee, shoulder and elbow injuries. His clinical and research interests include sports-related injuries, ACL tears, meniscus/cartilage preservation, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability/labral tears and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He believes in an individualized and customized approach to patient/athlete care, with the goal of an expeditious return to activities and sports. Dr. Sherman promotes a team approach with the integration of physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches into the treatment plan.
Dr. Sherman has been recognized for his contributions to advancing medicine through clinical research, having published numerous peer reviewed research articles, book chapter contributions and research presentations. Dr. Sherman was excited to join CMH and OHSU in the mission to provide high quality medical care to the Oregon coast. “What drew me to CMH was the focus on patient care and the patient experience," he says. "My goal as a provider is to foster a lifelong relationship with my patients to help them stay strong, active and pain-free at any age.”
When he isn’t working, Dr. Sherman enjoys hiking, exercising, reading, spending time outdoors and with his family, and traveling.
