Biography

Steve Sattler, MSW, LCSW, originally hales from the state of Iowa. Immediately upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he worked with service members and their families for more than 20 years. After retiring from the military, Steve continued to work with service members and their families in Iceland while in the employ of NATO, until moving to the high desert in Southern California. In Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Steve provided medical care to service members and their families as a medical assistant at a large Naval Hospital until moving to the beautiful state of Oregon where he continued his formal education, earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees in social work.

Steve has more than nine years in the mental health field working in the school setting, in addition to doing extensive work in a community mental health center. Steve’s practice has focused on children and families, especially children who have experienced significant trauma. While working in the community health setting, Steve was the primary child and family therapist, although he also provided therapeutic services to individuals of all ages who were experiencing a variety of mental health challenges. Steve has always incorporated a Rogerian approach in his practice, even as he utilizes principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

Steve now primarily works with children and families in the CMH-OHSU Health Pediatric Clinic at CMH, collaborating with an amazing and dedicated group of colleagues to provide person-centered care. "I feel very fortunate to be a member of such a talented team and to have the opportunity to provide support and services to the Astoria community," he says.
