Building a strong foundation

BuildCMH Update

CMH officially broke ground on the BuildCMH Expansion Project a little over a year ago. After completing initial site preparation work, including rerouting and reworking utilities, work on the facility's foundation began in September 2025.

To start, 400 piles needed to be drilled about 60 feet into solid bedrock to underscore a firm and seismically resilient foundation. With the piles completed, a foundation can be poured early this year and the building's steel structure will follow close behind. We are excited to see a physical framework of the facility taking shape by the second quarter of this year.

Have you heard about our new main entrance?

With the major construction work occurring on the expansion, we have a new way to enter CMH.
Patients coming to our campus in Astoria should drive to the back of the hospital via 22nd Street and Franklin Avenue to reach the new main entrance. Visit columbiamemorial.org/entrance for more information and to view a map.

Anyone visiting on the weekends or after regular business hours should use the Emergency Room entrance to access the hospital.
