DAISY Award nominations written by patients
ASTORIA, Ore. — Columbia Memorial Hospital proudly announces Becky White and Brandon Uribe as its most recent recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Both honorees were recognized for their exceptional dedication to patient care and their ability to provide comfort, compassion and reassurance during critical moments.
The commitment of Becky White, Surgical Services nurse, was highlighted in a nomination from the family of a surgical patient. White went above and beyond to ease the fears of a patient, who underwent a total hip arthroplasty in the spring. Recognizing the patient’s deep anxiety about the procedure, White took the initiative to meet with him personally in the SDS admitting room to explain every step of the process. 
“Becky truly set his mind at ease during one of the most stressful times of his life,” his wife shared. “Becky took the time during a very busy surgical procedure to call me and tell me every area of the procedure he was in. These updates were very comforting to me and unexpected.
Even as a nurse myself, I was just a family member in that moment, full of questions and fears that family goes through in the hospital. I thought, ‘OK, everything is good, Becky is taking care of him.’”
Brandon Uribe, Med/Surg nurse, was nominated by a patient who spent four days under his care at CMH.
“Brandon was knowledgeable, professional, and attentive, but most of all, he was caring and compassionate, doing it all with a smile on his face,” the patient said. “I was honored to be his patient and receive his loving care. KUDOS, young Brandon! Keep up the good work!”
The DAISY Foundation, established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, recognizes extraordinary nurses who exemplify exceptional care to patients and their families.
Both White and Uribe will be featured on the DAISY Foundation website and will have the opportunity to apply for additional scholarships as part of their recognition.
