Celebrating Cardiac Rehab Week 2022

Hospital news | Monday, February 14, 2022

February 13-19, 2022, is Cardiac Rehab Week.

Cardiac rehabilitation, also called cardiac rehab, is a medically supervised program for people who have had a heart attack, heart failure, heart valve surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting, or percutaneous coronary intervention.

Cardiac rehab involves adopting heart-healthy lifestyle changes to address risk factors for cardiovascular disease. To help you make these lifestyle changes, our program includes exercise training, education on heart-healthy living and counseling to reduce stress and help you return to an active life.

Cardiac rehab can improve your quality of life, potentially reduce the need for medication used to treat chest pain, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. It can decrease the chance of re-hospitalization, prevent future heart problems and even help you live longer. It also is covered by most insurance companies.

CMH’s cardiac rehab program is provided on an outpatient basis. The team includes doctors, respiratory therapists, exercise physiologists, certified athletic trainers, dietitians and mental health specialists. Your cardiac rehab team will design a program to meet your specific needs. During cardiac rehab, you will learn to exercise safely and increase your physical activity.
