CMH accepting applications for Medical Assistant Internship Program

Applications open today for the Medical Assistant Internship Program with CMH and the CMH-OHSU Health Medical Group. The next intern cohort will start in June.
The program is a paid six-month internship with the curriculum and hands-on clinical hours to obtain a medical assistant certification. It is made up of half classroom instruction through the U.S. Career Institute and half hands-on training in clinics.
Interns will be full-time employees of CMH and will be eligible for benefits.
“This internship has been a great opportunity to expand my education and knowledge, while still being able to provide for my family,” says Aloma Joseph, current intern. “I have absolutely loved my experience here.”
Medical assistant interns will provide essential support to health care professionals by performing administrative and clinical duties while undergoing formal training. The internship serves as an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in patient care, medical office operations and health care procedures under the supervisor of credentialed professionals.
In the program, interns will learn:
- Medical terminology and anatomy
- How to room a patient and obtain an accurate set of vital signs
- How to navigate and document in an electronic medical record (EMR)
- Point of care (POC) testing and phlebotomy
- How to administer vaccines and medications
- Administrative back office skills
The final phase of the internship involves taking the national exam to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
Upon successful completion of the course, interns will have the opportunity to transfer into a full-time or part-time Medical Assistant I position, with a one-year commitment to work at CMH.
The program will begin on June 17, 2025, and applications will be accepted from April 1-May 1, 2025. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. The deadline to apply for this term is May 1, 2025.
