Hospital responds to announcement of Providence Seaside closure of obstetrics services
"Yesterday, we learned Providence Seaside Hospital has made the difficult decision to close their inpatient obstetrics department and newborn care services.
"This announcement comes during an incredibly challenging period for hospitals. Rural hospitals are struggling to provide access to health services for their communities due to immense pressure from declining reimbursements, increasing costs and complex regulatory requirements.
"CMH is the largest provider of maternity services in the county and remains committed to maintaining this service for patients and their families in the future. CMH currently maintains a highly skilled maternity team composed of experienced physicians, certified nurse midwives and nurses.
"We will be evaluating the impact this closure has on our current resources. If necessary, we will add or enhance services to meet the needs of the community."
