CMH to offer caregivers moderna booster shots

COVID-19 | Thursday, October 21, 2021

Those who received the Moderna vaccine can get boosters starting Friday, 10/29

ASTORIA, Ore. – Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) will be offering Moderna COVID-19 booster shots to caregivers who previously received the vaccine starting Friday, October 29, 2021, from noon until 3:00 pm at the Astoria Armory.

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, the CDC recommended that the Moderna COVID-19 booster be given to those who completed the series of two shots at least six months ago. CMH provided the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to their providers starting on December 23, 2020, and more than 500 caregivers received the shot between December 2020 and April 2021.

This recommendation comes seven weeks after the Pfizer booster shot was approved for those completing that vaccine's initial series at least six months ago. Those eligible for this booster are in the same groups that were defined previously for Pfizer.

CMH Healthcare workers fall under the examples of those who work in a high-risk setting and have the most significant risk of contracting and spreading contagious diseases. Patients should have the right to expect their hospital to take every possible measure to protect their health while inside the hospital.

The booster shot is not mandated and is voluntary for those who choose to protect themselves further from COVID-19. There will be three opportunities for caregivers to receive the booster, including November 5 and 12, during the same timeframe.
