CMH welcomes new Emergency Department medical director Paul Silka, MD, MHA, FACEP

CMH is pleased to welcome Paul Silka, MD, MHA, FACEP, who starts as a new physician and Emergency Department medical director this week.

Dr. Silka is a physician and health care executive. He holds a faculty appointment as a clinical associate professor at Keck/USC School of Medicine, where he has taught since 1992, after finishing emergency medicine residency training at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School in Illinois. He practiced in the emergency department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for 21 years. During this period, he served as chief of staff for the medical center, followed by an appointment as the first chief medical information officer for the Cedars-Sinai Health System (CSHS).

After his tenure with CSHS, he served in leadership roles with Envision Healthcare, becoming the CEO of the West Division of EMCARE, managing acute care practices nationwide. Subsequently, Dr. Silka was tapped to begin a new emergency medicine practice at the Regional Medical Center of San Jose, a 90,000-visit ED within a Level II Trauma Center.

Areas of interest for Dr. Silka include understanding behaviors that lead to enhanced performance improvement, equity of trauma care, and how to best train professionalism throughout all domains of health care.
