CMH welcomes new Emergency physician, Dr. Juan Camilo Vanegas

CMH is pleased to welcome Juan Camilo Vanegas, MD, to the CMH Emergency Department. He joins CMH as an Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Emergency Medicine physician.

Dr. Vanegas earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He also holds a master's degree in biotechnology from John Hopkins University in Rockville, Maryland. He earned a bachelor's degree in microbiology and a minor in international affairs from the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.

Dr. Vanegas recently graduated from the OHSU Emergency Medicine Residency Program. During his residency, he completed a second-year rotation at CMH where he found community medicine to be both challenging and rewarding.

During his residency, Dr. Vanegas volunteered as the house officer association representative for the emergency medicine residency program and as an emergency medicine resident social media liaison.

Dr. Vanegas is the co-founder and an executive board member for MEDLIFE, a non-profit organization that partners with low-income communities in Latin America and Africa to improve access to medicine, education and community development initiatives.

During his MEDLIFE tenure, he has completed more than 250 community development projects; improved health care access for more than 150,000 patients; and established chapters at more than 190 universities, colleges and high schools.

In his free time, Dr. Vanegas enjoys doing anything outdoors. He is fluent in Spanish.
