CMH is pleased to welcome April Cockcroft, DO, as a new general surgeon in the CMH-OHSU Health General Surgery Clinic.

Dr. Cockcroft completed a residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. She earned her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, Oregon.

“I was born and raised in Seaside, Oregon,” Dr. Cockcroft says. “I am invested in the community and have a strong tie to the medical providers in our community, as well, given my father, Dr. Ben Cockcroft was a family practice doctor at Providence Seaside for nearly 30 years.”

Dr. Cockcroft says a pivotal moment in her career happened when she was observing Dr. Robert Wayne, her mentor, in the operating room at CMH while she was a high school student. Since then, she has wanted to return home after her medical training to give back to the community.

While in medical school, she completed third-year rotations at CMH and returned during her fourth year to do an additional surgical rotation. She has been trained in advanced surgical techniques that she is excited to bring to Astoria.

“I appreciate the opportunity to get to know the incredible individuals in our community,” Dr. Cockcroft says. “I see patient relationships as lifelong and enjoy staying updated on interests and the well-being of friends and family. Understanding one’s health is empowering, so I strive to communicate clearly, use visual aids and tailor treatment plans to align with individual care goals.”
