Earlier this year, CMH unveiled its new strategic plan, including a new mission and vision, along with five goals for the next five years:
-
Provide the highest-quality, safest care
-
Grow health care services to meet the region's needs
-
Improve community health and wellness
-
Remain the best place to work
-
Ensure long-term financial health
This spring, CMH was proud to be the Grand Slam Supporter to help resurface the tennis and basketball courts at Fred Lindstrom (Peter Pan) Park in Astoria, in addition to helping add four new pickleball courts.
The support ties in to the new CMH mission statement, "We help people live their healthiest lives." Donating toward the sports courts also falls within one of the five goals: to improve community health and wellness.
To enhance the courts, a group of local pickleball players formed an advocacy group, Sports Serve Astoria, to launch a capital campaign. They worked closely with Astoria Parks and Rec and its foundation on the project.
"On behalf of Sports Serve Astoria, I am thrilled to report that the project to revitalize the athletic courts at Fred Lindstrom Park was completed," says Meyer Freeman, one of the founders of the group. "The courts are now open for public use, including four brand new permanent pickleball courts, and newly improved tennis and basketball courts. Thank you for making this spectacular transformation possible!"
The City of Astoria and Sports Serve Astoria will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park on Sunday, Oct. 1, at noon. We hope you can attend! And if you or anyone you know would like to try out pickleball, Sports Serve has arranged for pickleball equipment to be available for checkout at no cost at the Peter Pan Market & Deli next door to the park.
"Thank you again for stepping up to make these dramatic park improvements possible and for providing residents of all ages the opportunity to experience the joy of outdoor sports and recreation in our community," Freeman says.
