Columbia Memorial Hospital is partnering with the American Lung Association to bring a cycling event to the Oregon Coast.
The organizations will host Reach the Beach Oregon, a fundraiser that supports American Lung Association programs. During the event, cyclists and bike riders will travel from Sauvie Island and finish their trek in Astoria at the Riverwalk.
The Astoria portion of the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Maritime Memorial (located off the Astoria Riverwalk at 10 Bay St.).
CMH is the Community Wellness Sponsor of Reach the Beach Oregon. The sponsorship ties to CMH’s new mission statement, “We help people live their healthiest lives.” To promote community wellness, several departments from CMH will join forces to participate in a “Clear the Air for Lung Health” fair, which will help people in the community learn about their lung health.
“We are thrilled to support the American Lung Association at this event,” says Durinda Haukap, director of the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative. “We look forward to helping our community members improve their lung health during this free event.”
CMH experts from Pulmonology, Pulmonary Rehab, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology and Medical Oncology will be on hand to educate participants on prevention, screening and monitoring, as well as answers questions about lung health.
The fair will also feature a giant, inflatable set of lungs, for attendees to walk through and learn about their health hands-on.
“This event will provide attendees several educational opportunities to learn important information about their lung health,” Haukap says. “This will be a great opportunity for everyone, especially those who already have lung-related health concerns.”
Fair attendees who complete a “Clear the Air for Your Lung Health” assessment on the CMH website will be entered to win a Retrospec Koa Rev 26” electric fat tire bike (approximate retail value: $1,500).
