Going the distance for hospice
From Sept. 21-22, 2022, CMH-OHSU Health Primary Care Clinic - Astoria physician Dr. Aaron Brown cycled 180 miles across England for a special cause.
Brown completed the bike ride with his friend, Gary. Together, they raised money for hospice centers. Brown raised a total of $7,584 for Lower Columbia Hospice.
Hospice, which usually cares for patients in their last days or weeks of life, holds special meaning for Brown. He rode in memory of his father and sister, who have passed away.
“The pain of biking 180 miles doesn’t compare to the loss of a loved one, whether it comes as a surprise or happens gradually,” Brown says. “I have seen firsthand how Lower Columbia Hospice offers families meaningful care and support as they say goodbye to their loved ones. [It was] an honor to support them with this ride.”
During their trip, Brown and Gary traveled from Liverpool to Mablethorpe, England. Despite two flat tires, they finished the ride under their time goal.
Before the trip, Brown trained two hours a day, riding up to 40 miles. Though he hadn’t completed a 180-mile ride before, he found the trip to be exhilarating and rewarding.
Thank you to everyone who donated to support local hospice care. We are grateful to be a part of such a kind, caring and generous community.
