Annual Report 2022 A year in review

2022 Annual Report Back to Annual Report

Reflecting on 2022

2022 marked the first year since the COVID-19 pandemic where the community was able to come together in-person once again for several events that had been put on hiatus. Though COVID-19 was still a large focus for our hospital, throughout the year, we were able to further strengthen bonds in the community and move forward.

I have so much gratitude for our caregivers, providers and leaders. We have not only expanded access by opening new clinics and services, but we have improved the quality of the health care we are providing.

Some highlights of 2022 include:

  • Facing the triple-demic of COVID-19/RSV/Flu
  • American College of Radiology accreditation for Radiation Therapy program
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion training for all CMH caregivers, providers and the Board of Trustees
  • Expansion of Behavioral Health services and partnership with law enforcement for the Emergency Department and mental health providers

CMH is no longer seen as just an acute care hospital — we are a significant community hub. It is clear that CMH brings substantial value to our region. Caregivers and leaders represent the hospital in many ways, serving on and in:

  • Child Care Task Force
  • Housing Task Force
  • Clatsop Community College nursing program
  • Athletic training partnership with local schools
  • Health Occupations Class at Astoria High School
  • Community Education classes
  • United Way Board
  • Astoria Regatta events
  • Great Columbia Crossing
  • Christmas Food Baskets Program
  • Law Enforcement and Fire Department partnerships

Last year, we provided millions in free care and financial assistance to patients. In addition, we gave $350,000 in contributions to local organizations, with a focus on improving access to childcare and enhancing health. More than 2,300 volunteer hours were recorded by CMH caregivers.

There are so many things to celebrate and be thankful for. As we move into the new year, we are excited to be guided by our new Strategic Plan. This plan, which will lead us from 2023-2027, was approved by the Board of Trustees in February 2023. It had input from many caregivers and community members, as did our Community Health Needs Assessment. It is truly a plan positioning us for a thriving future, and I know it will help us continue on the successful path we have been on for the last decade.
