A recap of 2023
2023 was an incredible year for CMH.
Our strategic goals include the following:
- Provide the highest quality, safest care of any health care organization
- Grow health care services to meet the needs of the region
- Improve community health and wellness
- Remain the best place to work
- Ensure long-term sustainable financial health
Throughout the year, CMH caregivers worked hard to meet these goals. That work paid off: We were honored to receive our second gold certification through Planetree, marking our fourth certification under the organization. Our facility also earned a handful of other certifications and awards though organizations such as the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.
We were excited to implement many improvements for our patients in 2023, including the Mako SmartRobotics system for Orthopedic surgery; the Phreesia patient intake system; and the expansion of our Swing Bed Program. All of our caregivers also participated in DEI and safety trainings, which were a great success.
2023 also was marked with fantastic fundraising for the BuildCMH Expansion Project. Two of these efforts were led by Randy McClelland and Chris Laman. Randy completed an ultraskate event, where he skateboarded for 24 hours. Chris completed an ultramarathon, where he ran 101 miles in just over 24 hours. Both Randy and Chris raised thousands of dollars for the expansion.
Another wonderful caregiver who has stepped up as a driving force for the campaign is Mike Wahl, Facilities engineer, who pledged to donate $10,000 to the campaign and urged his fellow caregivers to join him. Mike, along with many other caregivers, has been a vital part of the project’s meetings and has provided excellent, important feedback that has helped shape the new facility’s design plans.
We also received incredible donations from many community members and organizations, bringing us to more than $660,000 raised in 2023 for the expansion. Major gifts are listed at columbiamemorial.org/buildcmh-campaign.
The year’s highlights don’t end there. In August, we received news that FEMA advanced our $20 million BRIC grant request to help us achieve resiliency goals outlined in the expansion plans, including constructing a deep pile foundation and Tsunami Vertical Evacuation Structure able to accommodate 1900 people, as well as locating critical infrastructure, generators and a helipad on the roof.
As you’ll see in the following pages, these highlights only cover a fraction of CMH’s 2023 accomplishments. Read on to learn more about how our caregivers worked to improve health care on the North Coast.
