CMH sponsors 2023 community events

CMH caregivers were thrilled to participate in a variety of community events throughout 2023.

In May, CMH joined the American Lung Association to host Reach the Beach Oregon, a bike ride from Sauvie Island in the Portland metro area to Astoria. The event was a fundraiser for American Lung Association programs and brought in hundreds of participants and more than $100,000 in donations.

Later in the summer, CMH offered walk-in sports physicals for area students in Astoria and Seaside. The events helped ensure children would be up-to-date on any requirements in time for the 2023-2024 school year.

In August, CMH celebrated the 129th annual Astoria Regatta. We had a great time hosting the Regatta Square Block Party and participating in the Regatta Grand Land Parade.

CMH caregivers worked hard to put on the square, which included a health fair, a family-friendly BBQ lunch, a kids’ zone and a local DJ. The health fair featured many CMH departments and community organizations, such as Astoria Parks and Recreation, Clatsop Community College Nursing and Consejo Hispano.

In September, CMH was pleased to bring back free SPOTme Skin Cancer Screenings to Astoria. CMH partnered with Oregon Health & Science University’s Department of Dermatology, Frontier Dermatology (formerly Silver Falls) and Clear Choice Dermatology to offer dozens of free skin cancer screenings to the public. The event helped participants catch any skin abnormalities early and get fast treatment.

In October, the CMH-OHSU Health Cardiology Clinic sponsored the 41st Great Columbia Crossing 10K Run/Walk, where 3,500 participants crossed the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Many CMH caregivers had a great time participating in the event as well.

Finally, in December, CMH hosted its sixth year of the Christmas Food Baskets program. Thousands of items were donated to the program, which in turn went to local families in need. Several days’ worth of food was donated to a total of 167 families in Astoria, Warrenton and Knappa.

We are excited to continue supporting the community in 2024!
