Continuing our work in 2024 to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO)

At Columbia Memorial Hospital, safety has been one of our core CMH CARES values for years. The No. 1 goal in our organization's five-year strategic plan is to provide the highest-quality, safest care. We focus on safety for our patients and caregivers.

At the end of 2023, CMH began working toward becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO) with our partner, Press Ganey. Becoming an HRO involves learning tools and techniques to provide even greater safety to our patients and reducing how often we are injured on the job. Our ultimate goal is to get to zero harm.

Expanding and remodeling our spaces in 2024

In December, CMH announced the completion of a major remodel to the Specialty Clinic on the third floor of the Health & Wellness Pavilion.

The remodel increased space for Foot & Ankle, Orthopedic and Urology Clinic caregivers and patients. It was designed to accommodate growing demand for services and allows for the addition of new providers, enhancing the clinic’s ability to offer more timely access to care for patients.

Providing dental care for the community in 2024

The mobile dental van, supported by CMH and community partners, travels across Clatsop County to serve those in need. It helps patients with oral health service needs ranging from treatment for infection to extractions and restorative care. Blood pressure checks and patient education are also provided to each patient.

Bridging the gap with PFAC Hispano in 2024

Decisions about patient care and the patient experience should include a patient perspective. This is why the CMH Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is a very important group of people.

We formed a PFAC Hispano in 2024 to get perspectives from our Hispanic/Latino members of the community.

Continuing support of community health events in 2024

In 2024, we continued our dental van sponsorship, vaccine clinics, car seat clinics, and sports physicals for community members. We also held cancer screenings through events like Reach the Beach and the Skin Cancer Screening in Seaside. We hosted another Regatta health fair, the Swim Across the Columbia with the Regatta, and sponsored the Great Columbia Crossing and Christmas Basket Program.

In addition, we donated to many local sports teams and created five $1000 scholarships for local high school students who plan to go into a health care field.

Recognizing and engaging our caregivers in 2024

Last year, CMH’s Human Resources and Organizational Development department continued to share why caregivers “Love What They Do” and encourage a positive outlook on employment at CMH by holding six events throughout the year.

HR’s kudos card program resulted in 764 kudos cards passed to caregivers by their colleagues. The cards are a way to say “thank you” and appreciate all caregivers do for each other. HR also started a kudos coin program as another way to thank teammates.

A year in finance: 2024

CMH continues to grow and perform well financially. This is a testament to our team for managing the growth, staying focused on our strategic priorities, while continuing to provide high-quality care.

2024 was a year of record setting. We exceeded budget for most metrics in 2024, and our operating revenue was up 17% over 2023. Extraordinary achievements in caregiver and physician recruitment, as well as increased access, meant more patients were seen locally.
